MJ's funeral expenses amounted to nearly $1 million from start to finish, security to sarcophagus.Jackson's estate petitioned the court in September to approve the immediate release of the funds from the King of Pop's fortune to pay for the proceedings.
Per the paperwork, $855,730 was owed to Forest Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary, where Jackson was interred at a service attended by his whole family, close friends like Quincy Jones and Elizabeth Taylor, many celebrities and a few unwelcome news helicopters.
The Glendale cemetery charged $590,000 for the Holly Terrace sarcophagus that holds Jackson's remains (classified as "basic services and facilities"), as well as $88,500 for endowment care, $25,000 for the casket, $450 for embalming, etc.
The Jacksons racked up $49,372.50 in expenses up until July 2, when it was still unclear where MJ's final resting place would be, and then it cost another $10,000 to temporarily store his remains until the Sept. 3 interment.
Plenty was spent to keep people out as well as to keep Jackson in, including $39,166 for increased security for just a few days in July and $5,040 to put up barricades.
Also included in the filing were invoices that mentioned $21,455 for the post-service reception at restaurant Villa Sorriso, $16,000 for flowers and $35,000 for the garments Jackson was laid to rest in, $2,000 for the ushers' costumes and another $30,000 for cars and security.
Meanwhile, his eternal digs will continue to cost $5,000 a month for the use of the space, proving that some things truly do last forever.
